This idea of "autopoiesis" wakes up an analogy for me. As a "recovering pharma / pharmacy employee from years ago, I remember calling out the "system" in pharma and naming it "product delusionalism". When a company spends decades in research and development on a product creation, the investment is too large for information about the product to ever be viewed outside the system critically. The feedback loop (corrective feedback) can't happen because "reality" has been distorted through drinking the koolaid about how good the product is. Executive management has to keep the investors happy, the pharma reps have to believe in the product to sell it all under the umbrella of the almighty $$. The threat of the house of cards bringint the sales down blinds all involved.

Yep, autopoiesis is everywhere once you start recognizing the pattern.

A subtle and intelligent assessment of the ways that institutions end up failing society.

It appears that failure flows from a disconnect from reality and hence corrective feedback, a failure ubiquitious within the minds of the current opponents of Western civilization.

As you wrote, "Autopolesis becomes pathological when stability is prioritized over external correction". This explains so much. Just like the toddler who has chocolate smeared all over his face and when confronted with his mischief, he denies he has done anything wrong (trying to maintain equilibrium) because he can't see his own face! We watch politicians, NGOs, news organizations, etc. say/do things without a hint of shame that are outrageous because their loop serves only their purpose. They don't choke soon enough! Excellent and depressing.

From the outside, this appears to be exactly how the system works because it rigs the money for those in power to keep power without accountability. The American people are reduced to peasants who have nothing but the painful obligation to provide the capital and services for the ruling class.

Terrific analysis. Thank you!

I must have missed prior mentions about your forthcoming book - what’s the subject matter? Working title? Publisher? Hints of content?

The Founding Fathers recognized the problem (even if they didn't have a technical name for it), and tried to set up a self-correcting system. Trump is our chance to try to correct the mistakes of the past 40 years, as Reagan was in his time.

What concerns me is how the previous guardrails are being tested and assuming that they will hold.

And the "black water" also known as databases have not even approached the treatment plant. Secretary of States' voter rolls, Secretary of States' Business Licensing,... The people in charge of the databases don't care, bother or are paid not to read. DOGE started reading.

I used to run a wastewater plant. Your comparison is apt. Get the shit to me and I'll deal with it. Don't let it back up and cause problems upstream.

Very interesting. But is it really that complicated? It really comes down to Sin and Morality. Rome splits into two and then collapses because of the moral decay of the Roman Elite Class, exactly like we have it now. Italy still became a pretty cool place by the time of the Renaissance then backtracked with Mussolini then resurged post WWII until they joined the EU which began another long slide downward. Rome is now mostly a cesspool. Russia collapses under the weight of a greater evil force because the peasants saw the Elite living to high on the hog. Bad Capitalism is doing the exact same thing in America. It breeds Marxist forces until the breaking point. Every third or fourth or fifth generation think they have Utopia figured out this time. There are at least Twenty Million American Voters who would vote for an Openly Marxist President today. They would pull down the Sword of Damocles and kill every last one of us. OK I may have exaggerated here a bit, but you get the point.

I just feel govt is the system failure. They steal our tax money and give it to every immigrant, refugee, or asylum seeker.

Where is my do-over or freebie? Just had an Indian juvenile delinquent bread that his parents' businesses are in his name so they don't have to pay taxes. Not a naturalized citizen. Mother speaks zero English. Father, very little. 17 yo kid caught speeding 140 mph in a suburban city outside of Dayton.

I'm totally disgusted as a citizen.
